This guide compares the two routes for a Bitcoin purchase. For their individual steps, see buying Bitcoin with ACH and buying Bitcoin with a debit card. Fiat2Bitcoin remains prelaunch; availability, limits and pricing depend on a future eligible offer.
Is an ACH debit the same as a debit-card payment?
No. The word debit can mean money leaving an account without identifying the network that moved it. ACH is a bank-payment network. A debit-card checkout uses the card-payment process, even when the card draws on the same checking account.
Nacha explains that ACH payments and card payments are different. Your bank-account and routing numbers are also different from the number printed on your debit card. Follow the selected checkout's instructions rather than entering one type of number in a field for the other.
The CFPB describes debit cards as a way to spend account funds and credit cards as borrowing. An ACH debit is not a credit-card purchase simply because the bank statement uses the word payment.

| Question | ACH | Debit card |
|---|---|---|
| How is payment arranged? | Bank connection or account details and the required authorization | Card details or another supported card checkout flow |
| What checks can apply? | Account support, ownership and payment authorization | Card support, billing details and cardholder authentication |
| What price should you compare? | The actual ACH offer and any outside bank charges | The actual card offer and any outside issuer charges |
| What does a bank entry prove? | The bank's status for that payment entry | The issuer's authorization or posted-payment status |
| When is Bitcoin available? | Under the provider's review, settlement and release conditions | After required checks, processing and delivery; not just authorization |
Is ACH cheaper than a debit card?
It can be, but the label alone does not answer the question. Compare the same dollar budget using current offers gathered close together. Include the exchange rate, service charges, any separately collected bank or issuer charges, and the final Bitcoin amount.
Merchant processing costs are not the same as the price quoted to a Bitcoin buyer. A general statement that ACH costs a business less to process cannot establish that a particular ACH checkout delivers more Bitcoin for your budget.

| Record this | ACH offer | Debit-card offer |
|---|---|---|
| Total dollars leaving your account | Include known outside charges | Include known outside charges |
| Bitcoin quoted for delivery | Record the final BTC quantity | Record the final BTC quantity |
| When the price is fixed | Read the quote's acceptance and expiry terms | Read the quote's acceptance and expiry terms |
| When delivery can occur | Record the estimate and release conditions | Record the estimate and release conditions |
If both offers cost exactly $200 in total, the larger final BTC quantity is the better quantity-for-cost result at that moment. That comparison still does not tell you whether its timing and eligibility fit your needs. If the total costs differ, use the complete-cost comparison. Fiat2Bitcoin's wire rates do not apply to ACH or card offers.
Is a debit card faster than ACH?
A card can return an authorization result quickly, but authorization, provider completion and Bitcoin delivery are different events. Stripe's payment-process comparison describes the separate authorization and settlement steps for cards. This is background on payment processing, not a claim that Fiat2Bitcoin uses Stripe.
Nacha's ACH overview describes bank-network settlement options. Those options do not set the release schedule of a Bitcoin purchase provider. A provider can have its own verification, review and availability conditions after the bank payment is initiated.
Ask a specific question: 'When will the quoted Bitcoin be delivered to my destination, and what could delay it?' Compare that answer with your schedule. Use our ACH timing guide for bank-funded orders and the card-versus-Bitcoin transaction guide for card orders.
What changes when comparing ACH with a credit card?
A credit card introduces borrowing costs and repayment obligations. Ask the issuer whether the cryptocurrency purchase is permitted and how it will be classified. A normal shopping rewards rate or interest-free period should not be assumed to apply.
The CFPB identifies cryptocurrency purchases among transactions that can incur cash-advance fees. Read the credit-card purchase guide and cash-advance cost worksheet before comparing a credit-funded quote with an ACH quote.
Your payment obligation does not disappear if Bitcoin falls in value. Evaluate how the card balance will be repaid independently of any expected Bitcoin price change.
A checklist before choosing either method
- Confirm the method is available for your location, amount and account or card.
- Check the complete dollar cost and final Bitcoin amount, including whether a fractional purchase meets the offer's minimum.
- Read the authorization, price-lock and delivery terms.
- Complete the required checks through the verified provider workflow.
- Verify the receiving wallet and retain the original order reference.
If you have already started a payment, resolve that attempt before switching routes. A new ACH order does not cancel a pending card order, and another card attempt does not repair an ACH return. Use the pending-payment checklist to establish the current status before creating another obligation.
